I can't see the league going to 16 teams. If anything, the one team on the market will sell to the Oneonta group and you'll remain at 14 clubs. Only three leagues to my knowledge have more than 14, the Northwoods (16), Coastal Plain (15) and Prospect (15).
Newark has been discussed in the past though nothing ever seemed to work out to place a team there. The next western cities to enter the league in my guess would be Batavia and Jamestown - if either ever loses their NY-P franchise. Ithaca could also be a potential spot given its' proximity to the other clubs.
If Oneonta doesn't get in this year, I would assume they'd be in next year as an expansion team or the group could find someone else to buy the team from if the current sale doesn't pan out.

How about a team over here in Hamilton, Ontario ? we are just over an hour away from Buffalo and have an old minor league ball park. With half a million people, we should be able to get 1500 out to a game.

You'll end up spending more time at the boarder then you will the actual bus ride. Check your messages!

Not to mention getting the players back-and-forth over the border for games - whether it be a visiting team traveling into Canada and then back home or the Canadian team going into the States and then returning.
Sure, Thunder Bay exists in the Northwoods League but the process of putting a team in Canada is just a logistical nightmare. If the Can-Am League expanded back into New York, Hamilton would be a logical fit as the western-most team.

I was about to mention Thunder Bay, if they can do it why not Hamilton. I do think Hamilton might be too "ethnically diverse" to support a team. We have an AHL hockey team that hardly anyone goes to see.

Well, it's definitely going to happen. The Saratoga Phillies are going to move their team to Oneonta according to our local news station. I wish them well.
